About Benagil.pt
An independent local guide to the village of Benagil, its beaches and trails, the famous sea cave, and the surrounding Algarve coast.
Who we are
We're a small team of local editors based in the Algarve. We spend time on the Benagil coastline year-round - the village, the beaches around it, the cliff trails, the restaurants - and verify operator information directly with the businesses. We track regulatory updates from the Maritime Authority (Capitania do Porto de Portimão) and the Municipality of Lagoa. Benagil.pt is independent of any single tour operator: every licensed business is listed on the same terms.
Why this exists
Most visitors land in Benagil knowing only the cave - the famous skylight photo. Too many arrive unprepared: unaware that swimming to the cave has been banned since 2023, surprised by parking that fills before 9 AM in summer, unsure which of the seven operators to book, and not realizing the village offers a sheltered beach, four more beaches within walking distance, the Seven Hanging Valleys cliff trail, and several family-run restaurants. Older travel blogs and OTA listing pages don't surface this clearly. We built this guide to fix that.
How we work
Our cave-access content cites primary sources directly - the Maritime Authority order and the Municipality of Lagoa communications. Parking GPS coordinates and lot capacities are verified on the ground. Operator profiles use only publicly available data (RNAAT registry, GetYourGuide and Viator review pages, operator websites) until we've cross-checked with the operator directly.
How we make money
We earn a commission when readers book a tour through our GetYourGuide and Viator affiliate links. This does not influence which operators we list or how we describe them - every licensed RNAAT operator is included on the same terms, regardless of whether their bookings flow through an affiliate. We do not accept payments for editorial placement.
Trust and accuracy
Every page shows when it was last verified. Regulatory pages cite the original source by name and link. Spotted an error or outdated detail? Email [email protected] and we'll review and update.
